The Right Worshipful Master
Bro. Thomas W. MacGillivray
After nearly two years of preparation, negotiations with Grand Lodge, and a lot of hard work, Lodge Thistle & Saltire No. 1040 was consecrated in Osnabrück on Sunday 15th September 2002, by MW Brother N.J.R. Woodhouse, Grand Master of The Grand Lodge of British Freemasons in Germany. No less than 108 visitors honoured us on that day, and 33 of the 44 Founder Members were present.
The main purpose behind the founding of this Lodge was to present Freemasonry in the “Scottish Way”, in order that brethren eventually returning to their homes on Auld Scotia’s shores would be equipped with some knowledge of how it is done there. However, the existence of this Lodge in Germany also provides ALL German masons with the opportunity of seeing Masonic working from a Scottish perspective. We at Lodge Thistle & Saltire No. 1040 hope that our existence contributes to the enrichment of the German Masonic experience.
