Anglo-Hanseatic Lodge No. 850

The Lodge was formed in 1958 by a group of expatriate freemasons from the UK, Denmark and the USA living in Hamburg at that time.  It is one of sixteen English speaking Lodges in Germany which belong to the Grand Lodge of British Freemasons in Germany which in turn is a member of the United Grand Lodges of Germany to which all German Lodges belong.

The Lodge is growing in strength and now has the highest number of Resident Members of any Lodge within the Grand Lodge of British Freemasons in Germany. Unlike the other English speaking Lodges in Germany which consist largely of military personnel, members come from all walks of civilian life including such professions as bankers, diplomats, doctors, engineers, economists, lawyers, teachers etc.   Membership is also open to non-British nationals but as Lodge business is conducted in English this demands an especially good knowledge of the language.

The Lodge year begins in October and regular meetings are held on the third Saturday of each month from October to May in the Logenhaus, Welckerstraße 8, Hamburg. Further meetings are held on the Tuesday before the regular Lodge meeting and visits are made to other British and German Lodges within Germany.  Visits have also been made to Lodges in the UK. There are also social occasions held to which ladies and non-masonic guests partners are invited.

Members of other Lodges are of course welcome to visit and any person interested in joining is welcome to contact the Lodge either via a member or the Secretary.

Our Lodge meetings are held in the months of January, February, March, April, May, October, November and December
